Looking Back: Live Demo of Collision Detection and Automatic Braking

During the Kipper Event on June 5 and 6, 2026, Rietveld, together with Vrijbloed Transport, demonstrated how collision detection and automatic braking work in practice. Visitors at Veluwe aan Zee were able to experience firsthand how EasyBrake supports the driver and can intervene when a collision is imminent.

From Warning to Active Intervention

Collisions with vehicles and machinery pose a major risk, especially when reversing and maneuvering. Cameras and detection systems can alert the driver, but EasyBrake adds an extra layer of safety: automatic braking intervention.

During the demonstration, visitors saw how the system:

  • detects people and obstacles around the vehicle;
  • warns the driver in a timely manner;
  • automatically applies the brakes when there is an imminent risk of collision;
  • allows the driver to retain control of the vehicle.

This clearly demonstrated how technology can help when a driver fails to react in time due to blind spots, heavy traffic, or other circumstances. No theoretical explanation—just vehicle safety in action.

EasyBrake Demonstrated on a Vrijbloed Truck

For the live demonstration, EasyBrake was installed on a Vrijbloed Transport vehicle. The system monitored a preset danger zone around the vehicle. As soon as a person or obstacle was detected in this zone, a warning was issued, and the system could automatically intervene if necessary.

Visitors could sit next to the driver and experience firsthand from inside the cab how detection, warning, and braking intervention work together. This clearly demonstrated how EasyBrake supports the driver during critical maneuvers.

The original event took place on Friday, June 5, and Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Veluwe aan Zee, Nulde Beach.

Collaboration with Vrijbloed Transport

Vrijbloed Transport consciously chooses innovative technology that enhances the safety of drivers, employees, and other road users. In doing so, the transportation company goes beyond the minimum legal requirements.

This forward-thinking vision aligned well with Rietveld’s goal: not only to identify collision risks, but to actually help prevent them wherever possible.

By demonstrating EasyBrake on a vehicle used in everyday operations, visitors were able to immediately assess the system’s functionality and added value.

An extra layer of safety for vehicles and machinery

EasyBrake was developed for vehicles and machines operating in dynamic environments. Examples include construction sites, distribution centers, transshipment yards, waste processing facilities, and other situations where people and equipment move in close proximity to one another.

The system can be used on, among other things:

  • trucks and dump trucks;
  • garbage trucks and street sweepers;
  • loaders and excavators;
  • wheel loaders;
  • construction and infrastructure equipment;
  • other vehicles with an increased risk of collision.

The exact configuration is tailored to the vehicle, the braking system, the work being performed, and the desired detection zones.

Safety That Goes Beyond the Standard

Cameras, warnings, and good visibility remain key components of vehicle safety. In some work environments, however, warnings alone are not enough. An automatic braking system can make all the difference at that one critical moment.

That’s why Rietveld takes a holistic view of the safety situation surrounding a vehicle or machine. From improved visibility with 360° cameras and AI detection to visual warnings and automatic braking intervention: together, we create a solution tailored to the equipment, the users, and the work environment.
