The truck toll has been in effect in the Netherlands since July 1, 2026. Owners of Dutch and foreign trucks in vehicle categories N2 and N3 will now pay per kilometer driven. To pay the truck toll, a contract must be entered into with an authorized service provider for each vehicle subject to the toll. In addition, the vehicle must be equipped with a properly functioning toll box, also known as an On-Board Unit (OBU).
The toll device automatically records where the vehicle is traveling and ensures that the toll due is processed through the selected service provider. Without a functioning toll device, the vehicle is not permitted on the road. This also applies when you are driving only on roads where no truck toll is charged.
