During the symposium on Friday, September 18, titled “Accelerating Together Toward Zero Collisions,” the construction and infrastructure sector took an important step toward a collaborative approach to collision risk. The risk of collisions is one of the most significant safety hazards in the construction and infrastructure sectors. On construction sites, workers, vehicles, and machines often operate in the same confined and constantly changing environment. Preventing collisions therefore requires collaboration across the entire chain: from machine operators and site supervisors to employers, clients, industry associations, and suppliers.

From Individual Measures to a Joint Approach

During the symposium on September 18 in Harderwijk, industry representatives discussed risks, obstacles, potential solutions, and concrete next steps. The shared goal is clear: to move as quickly as possible toward a situation where collisions between people and heavy equipment no longer occur.

Technology that supports the machine operator

A safe construction site begins with separating people and equipment as much as possible, a well-thought-out layout of the worksite, and clear work protocols. Technical solutions can then help to further mitigate any remaining risks.
