Working Together to Accelerate the Move Toward Zero Accidents

During the symposium on Friday, September 18, titled “Accelerating Together Toward Zero Collisions,” the construction and infrastructure sector took an important step toward a collaborative approach to collision risk. Rietveld supports this ambition with expertise, practical experience, and innovative safety technology for vehicles and heavy equipment.

The risk of collisions is one of the most significant safety hazards in the construction and infrastructure sectors. On construction sites, workers, vehicles, and machines often operate in the same confined and constantly changing environment. Preventing collisions therefore requires collaboration across the entire chain: from machine operators and site supervisors to employers, clients, industry associations, and suppliers.

From Individual Measures to a Joint Approach

During the symposium on September 18 in Harderwijk, industry representatives discussed risks, obstacles, potential solutions, and concrete next steps. The shared goal is clear: to move as quickly as possible toward a situation where collisions between people and heavy equipment no longer occur.

Rietveld was present to contribute to this approach from a technological and innovative perspective. The focus is not on a single product or system, but on determining which combination of measures is most effective in a specific practical situation.

Technology that supports the machine operator

A safe construction site begins with separating people and equipment as much as possible, a well-thought-out layout of the worksite, and clear work protocols. Technical solutions can then help to further mitigate any remaining risks.

Rietveld supplies and develops various solutions for this purpose:

Which solution is appropriate depends, among other things, on the vehicle type, the work being performed, the environment, and the risks surrounding the machine. A mobile crane requires a different approach than a truck, wheel loader, excavator, or paver.

Development and Real-World Testing

Safety technology must do more than just look good on paper. The solution must function reliably under varying weather conditions, fit the work process, and support the operator without causing unnecessary alerts or distractions.

That is why Rietveld works closely with customers, machine operators, safety experts, OEMs, and suppliers of technical products. Systems are implemented in real-world settings, tested, and further refined where necessary. Our experience with companies such as BAM, Heijmans, Dura Vermeer, and Mammoet demonstrates how features including 360° camera views, intelligent detection, visual safety zones, and braking systems can collectively contribute to greater situational awareness and safety around heavy equipment.

Together, Expert, Forward >

The goal of zero collisions can only be achieved by bringing together knowledge, practical experience, and technology. Rietveld therefore continues to actively contribute to the development and implementation of innovative vehicle safety solutions.

Together, expert, moving forward > Our approach is fully aligned with this shared safety ambition.
